Build for How You Live, Not for What People Expect

Just because you can afford a bigger house doesn't mean you need one. The questions to ask before deciding how big to build.

Kuya Erick · October 2, 2026

Hindi porket kaya mong gastusan yung bahay, kailangan mong palakihin. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean you need to build bigger.

Ask yourself first

Before you build, ask: ilan ba talaga ang titira dito? How many people will actually live here?

  • Are your kids going to stay here?
  • Will your parents eventually live with you?
  • Is this your future retirement home?

Sometimes we build based on what we can afford today instead of what we actually need.

Every square meter has a cost

Every extra square meter means more:

  • Construction cost
  • Maintenance
  • Electricity
  • Taxes

Every extra square meter adds construction, maintenance, electricity and tax costs

The right house, not the biggest

Your dream house doesn't have to be the biggest house on the street. Pwedeng mas maliit nang konti, pero mas maganda. It can be a bit smaller, but better.

It just has to be the right house for you.
